CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (CPTED)
Crime Prevention through Environmental Design entails working with Architects/Designers at the design stage of a project, with the aim of incorporating crime prevention measures at the earliest design stage and thereby eliminating or reducing the opportunity for crime.
The CPTED approach can also be applied to existing buildings and renovation projects and has benefits not only in terms of its crime prevention value but can also provide a cost efficient method of system installation.

DATA PROTECTION
Images captured by CCTV systems are classified as personal data according to Irish Data Protection Legislation and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Any premises or locations accessible to the public and where CCTV is operational are required to have a clearly defined CCTV policy in place. This policy must address the use, management, and control of CCTV systems to ensure compliance with relevant data protection standards.
In accordance with GDPR requirements, a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) should be carried out before the installation of any CCTV system if he system is likely to result in a "high risk" to individuals' privacy and freedoms. The purpose of the DPIA is to identify and mitigate potential data protection risks that may arise from the introduction of a new CCTV system, ensuring these risks are properly managed for both the organisation and the individuals with whom it interacts.
